La Fortuna is the busiest tourism town in Costa Rica, and it earned that. Arenal Volcano rises straight out of the pasture behind it, the hot springs are fed by real geothermal water, and the waterfall at the edge of town is genuinely beautiful. Everything here works: the roads are paved, the restaurants are good, the operators speak English.
It is also the most expensive corner of the northern zone, and the most crowded. We cover it honestly, because it is worth seeing. And where a quieter, cheaper version of the same experience exists an hour away, we say so.
